Alexander McQueen was a British fashion designer who is known for his highly original designs, precise tailoring as well as his huge theatrical runway shows which were inspired by theater, performance art and history. He left school at 16 and took on an apprenticeship at Saville Row which would inform his career and style - McQueen kept the tradition but broke all the rules.

He studied at St Martins College and his graduate collection gained him extensive press coverage, and was purchased in its entirety by the influential fashion stylist Isabella Blow. McQueen launched his own label in 1992 and was appointed head designer at Givenchy in 1996, after John Galliano.

McQueen poured raw emotion into his work and together with his fascination with history, innovation and creativity he is regarded as one of the most revolutionary designers of the 20th century.
