A highly coveted suit from John Galliano’s Fall Winter 1997 “Suzy Sphinx” collection. The collection was inspired by Cleopatra star Theda Bara, and the dark romanticism of Siouxsie and the Banshees. This sharply tailored skirt suit reflects Galliano’s fascination with 1940s silhouettes, reworked through his signature lens.

Featuring strong shoulders and dramatic ruching gathered towards the front, creating an hourglass shape reminiscent of vintage couture techniques. The circular smocked construction and elongated proportions create a striking contrast between softness and structure. The 1940s inspired skirt falls just below the knee.

This design has become some of Galliano’s most recognisable tailoring pieces, the runway version has been worn by both Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner. A Dior interpretation was also worn by Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City, further cementing the silhouette’s cult status within fashion history.
