From Thierry Mugler’s Spring Summer 1997 Couture collection, titled Les Insectes. A striped version was shown on the runway. Inspired by insect anatomy and Kafka’s Metamorphosis, the collection explored ideas of transformation. The dress is constructed with curved paneling that creates a highly contoured hourglass shape.
The dress balances the elegance of a 1960s silhouette with Mugler’s graphic language, illustrated through black tonal velvet contrasts that shape the body. Finished with an elegant velvet bow detail at the back.
