WHY WE LOVE IT

Very rare. Very iconic. From Thierry Mugler’s Prêt-à-porter Fall Winter 1998/99 collection titled “Lingerie Revisited".

Photographed by Helmut Newton for Thierry Mugler's Fall Winter 1998 look-book. This hourglass jacket was also featured in a Neiman Marcus campaign for Harper's Bazaar, September 1998 on actress Estella Warren.

Luxurious. Dramatic. Tailored to perfection. Made from black wool and lined in shiny black satin. It features a squared notched lapel, V- neckline and padded shoulders. A dramatic hourglass silhouette emphasised by lines of rhinestone embellishments in the shape of corset seam-lines . The rhinestones are also featured on the cuff of each sleeve.

A very special collectors item. Both wearable and an investment piece that will continue to increase in value.

——

Thierry Mugler was a french fashion designer, creative director and photographer. Known for his avant-garde, sculpture-like designs with dramatic hyper-feminine hour-glass silhouettes. His often scandalous designs drew from a wide range of influences including science fiction, film noir, dominatrixes and glamour - to name a few. Muglers’ haute couture and ready to wear shows were revolutionary theatrical productions and he pioneered diversity in casting by including a wide range of ages, body types, ethnicities and gender identities on the runway.

Thierry Mugler launched his first collection titled “Cafe de Paris” in 1973 and by 1978 he opened his first boutique in the 1st Arrondissement in Paris. Through the 1980s and 1990s Thierry Mugler gained international recognition with his exaggerated tailored suits and dresses with ultra-feminine silhouettes. His designs recall 1940s femme fatale and 1950s glamour with broad shoulders, cinched waists and tight pencil skirts which continue to empower and inspire women to this day.
